During the open day, Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva and representatives of the National Social Security Institute will hold an information campaign entitled "Pensions in euro," dedicated to the currency conversion on 1 January 2026. The initiative was organized after the Ombudsman received reports indicating that the process was causing concern among many elderly people.
Brochures and booklets provided by the Ministry of Finance and the Bulgarian National Bank will be distributed on site, with illustrations showing how to convert the change at the official exchange rate of 1 EUR = 1.95583 lBGN.
Elderly people who use mobile phones will be able to use the QR code on the leaflets to calculate levs into euros and stotinki into euro cents in real time.
The booklets also provide answers to practical questions: how to exchange money, what is the limit for a single exchange, how will pensions, social payments, and salaries be recalculated, is it necessary to re-sign contracts, etc.
