International Co-operation

The international activities the Ombudsman institution are pro-active, productive and content-rich. Since 2019 it intensified the cooperation with European and international institutions, organisations and partners.

The prestige of the Ombudsman institution on the international arena was upheld firmly with the accreditation in 2019 of the highest “A” status for a National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) under the UN Paris Principles, which allows the Bulgarian Ombudsman to address the meetings of all UN human rights committees and the Human Rights Council.

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria is full member of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and voting member of the European Network of the National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI).

Since March 2022 Prof. Dr. Diana Kovatcheva, Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria was elected member of both the ENNHRI and GANHRI governing bodies.
