Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva and the National Social Security Institute (NSSI) hold a joint reception day for citizens in the town of Mezdra

Thursday, 09.10.2025

9 October 2025

On 21 October 2025 (Tuesday), Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva, together with a team of experts from the Institution, will visit the town of Mezdra.

At 10:00 a.m., at the invitation of Miroslav Pavlov, principal of Vasil Levski High School, Delcheva will conduct a class on civic education, during which students will talk with the Ombudsman about children's rights, their first employment contract, and when and on what issues they can seek assistance from the national public defender.

At 1:00 p.m., the Ombudsman and a team of experts from the Institution will consult citizens at an outreach reception day, which will be held at the Municipality of Mezdra, 27 Hristo Botev Street.

All citizens who need advice or assistance on issues related to property rights, social, pension, insurance, and health rights, consumer cases—electricity, water, mobile operators, financial institutions, etc.—can pre-register for the reception.

Telephone numbers for citizens to register:

0886 500 134 – Mezdra Municipality;

02/ 81 06 955,  0879 596 358 – Ombudsman's reception desk.

During the reception day, Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva and representatives of the National Social Security Institute will conduct an explanatory information campaign on the issues of conversion from 1 January 2026, entitled "Pensions in euros", aimed at elderly people.

The initiative is organized by Velislava Delcheva after reports were received by the Ombudsman Institution indicating that the process of introducing the euro was causing concern among many elderly citizens.

Brochures and booklets provided by the Ministry of Finance and the Bulgarian National Bank will be distributed on site, illustrating the recalculation of change at the official exchange rate of EUR 1 = BGN 1.95583. To make it easier for the elderly who use mobile phones, by scanning the QR code printed on the leaflets, they will be able to convert levs into euros and stotinki into euro cents in real time.

The booklets also provide answers to specific questions such as how to exchange money, how much can be exchanged at one time, how pensions, social security payments, and salaries will be recalculated, whether contracts need to be re-signed, etc.
