Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva addressed the Mayor of Sofia Municipality Vasil Terziev and the Director of the Sofia Inspectorate Nikolay Nedelkov regarding complaints received from citizens, reporting waste accumulation as a result of difficulties in waste collection in Lyulin and Krasno Selo districts.

The complaints state that since the introduction of the new waste collection system, traditional garbage bins are not being emptied regularly, leading to overflowing and littering of the surrounding areas. Citizens are insisting on urgent action to clean up and remove the waste.

In this regard, the Ombudsman has sent a request to the local authorities regarding the temporary schedule for empting the garbage bins in the specified areas and the possibility of increasing the frequency of waste collection if the current one does not meet the needs. Delcheva also requests information on whether the areas around the garbage bins are cleaned regularly and how often, as well as whether the crisis situation is expected to continue and what measures are being discussed to resolve it permanently.
