15 December 2022

Today Parliament approved unanimously in plenary session the legislative proposal made by the Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva for the non-sequestration of the funds of working parents who have availed of tax benefits.

In November Prof. Kovacheva seized the Standing Parliamentary Budgetary and Finances Committee with a proposal for legislative amendments to Articles 22(c) and 22(d) of the Personal Income Tax Act.

She insisted that non-sequestration be provided for the funds reimbursed by employers to workers and employees who have availed of tax benefits for children or for children with disabilities.

GERB MP Aleksander Ivanov and colleague MPs endorsed the legislative proposal and submitted it for review in the Budgetary Committee and today it has become a fact. This will ensure genuine support for parents in the upbringing of their children since the funds will be earmarked for covering the children’s needs rather than parents’ lien obligations.
