The Members of Parliament have unanimously approved at the first reading in a plenary session with 184 votes “in favour” the legislative proposal of Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva about amendments to the Persons with Disabilities Act (PDA) and the Health Act aiming to overcome the most serious problems of persons with disabilities related to delays in re-examinations by the authorities of medical expert examinations and the inability to exercise their rights beyond their control.
Today’s decision of the Members of Parliament also approved the other proposal tabled by the Ombudsman regarding the PDA to remove the discrimination with respect to the monthly financial benefits for war invalids and people with hereditary pensions with the right to external assistance.
At the end of November, Prof. Kovacheva tabled her proposal before the Parliament and it was supported and put forward by Social Committee Deputy Chair Denitsa Sacheva.
The amendments will make it possible to solve the problems of more than 660,000 vulnerable citizens so that people with disabilities will have access to the monthly and earmarked support, pensions and support they are entitled to until the decisions of the Territorial and the National Expert Medical Commissions.
