At the initiative of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria, Velislava Delcheva, at-risk children from the Nadezhda district of Sofia received a donation—a 3D printer and a computer—which will support their education, creative development, and social integration.
The 3D printer was donated by Lidl’s Executive Director Milena Dragiyska, and the computer by the Ombudsman’s Chief Secretary Aysun Avdjiev.
The initiative began on the eve of Christmas, when Kiril Vasilev—head of an organisation working with at-risk children in the Nadezhda district—contacted the Ombudsman. He invited Delcheva to visit the site and learn about their activities.
During the visit, the Ombudsman met with the children and saw their work on site—drawing, creative activities, and working on various projects. It became clear on the spot that when there is an environment and people working with them, these at-risk children are able and eager to develop. Instead of being “swallowed up” by the neighbourhood, they create, learn, and seek their own path. After the meeting, Delcheva committed to helping secure additional opportunities for their development. The children then shared that they needed a 3D printer so they could create more complex projects and develop new skills. As a result of the Ombudsman’s subsequent actions, their dream became a reality.
“This is not just a donation, but an opportunity for these children—a chance to develop their talents, believe in themselves, and have a better future,” highlighted Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva. During the event, it also became clear that some of the children who had turned 16 were offered the opportunity to work under an employment contract during the summer vacation—an additional step toward their social and professional fulfillment.
As part of the initiative, a short film created by the children themselves was screened, showcasing their daily lives, talents, and dreams.
