Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva met today with H. Martin McDowell, Chargé d'Affaires at the United States Embassy in Bulgaria.

The Ombudsman familiarized him with the priorities in her work and emphasized that the institution's agenda was set by citizens, but that protection against violations and unlawful infringements of their rights was the leading activity of the institution.

"I strive to be proactive and persistent, relying on good cooperation with the National Assembly and dialogue with the executive and local authorities to successfully solve people's problems. I raise awareness of the problems, and my work focuses on vulnerable groups in society – the elderly, the protection of children, especially those in conflict with the law, the socially disadvantaged and people with disabilities," Delcheva said.
