Today the MPs members of the Budgetary and Finances Committee approved at second reading the proposal of the Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva for amendments in the provisions of Articles 22(c) and 22(d) of the Personal Income Tax Act.
Prof. Kovacheva insists that the funds that employers reimburse to workers and employees who have availed of tax benefits for children or children with disabilities be exempt from sequestration. The MP (GERB) Aleksander Ivanov and his colleagues endorsed the Ombudsman’s legislative proposal on 23 November 2022 and submitted it for review in the Budgetary Committee.
According to the public defender, if adopted, the amendment will ensure real support for working parents in the upbringing of their children and children with disabilities since the funds will be used precisely to cover children’s needs rather than their parents’ lien obligations.
The Ombudsman informed the MPs during the meeting of the Budgetary Committee that following contradictory practices among the private enforcement agents she had addressed the Chamber of Private Enforcement Agents insisting to comment the legislative amendment proposed by her.
“They support the proposal, even they who protect the creditors’ interests, even they do not want to withhold funds designated for children and children with disabilities”, prof. Diana Kovacheva said.
