"It is an honour for me to congratulate you on the opening of the new academic year at the Krustyo Tsonchev Centre for Training of Lawyers – a hub of professionalism, morality and pursuit of excellence." With these words, Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva opened the ceremony, emphasizing the important role of the legal profession in protecting human rights and personal dignity.

In her speech, Delcheva pointed out that today, when citizens' rights are increasingly being put to the test, it is the lawyer who stands by the individual, defends them, and restores their voice and hope.

"The Ombudsman and lawyers are allies in a common cause – the cause of human rights, the rule of law, and human dignity," she said.

The Ombudsman emphasized that the legal profession is not only a vocation but also a moral responsibility, because every lawyer chooses between the "light" and "dark" sides of the law on a daily basis.

"I wish you to always choose the light – the side of justice, honesty, and humanity. The way you apply the law determines people's trust in justice and the very idea of fairness," Delcheva said.

She wished the teachers inspiration and the students perseverance and success, reminding them that "the law is, above all, serving people."

The start of the academic year was marked by the chair of the Center's Management Board, Assoc. Prof. Boryana Museva, who noted that in 20 years, the school has conducted over 2,700 training courses, which have been attended by more than 100,000 lawyers.
