As part of the outreach reception, the Ombudsman and a representative of the National Social Security Institute in Pernik will also conduct an informational campaign entitled "Pensions in Euro".
We recall that the initiative was launched after reports were received by the Ombudsman Institution, which made it clear that the revaluation process was causing concern among many elderly citizens.
The campaign is mainly aimed at elderly people, in connection with the introduction of the euro on 1 January 2026. the Ombudsman's experts, together with the National Social Security Institute throughout the country, have been advising pensioners for four months on issues related to the recalculation of pensions in euro, as well as how to recognize counterfeit banknotes so as not to fall victim to fraudsters.
Brochures and booklets provided by the Ministry of Finance and the Bulgarian National Bank are distributed on site, containing accessible and understandable information on the conversion of change at the official exchange rate of 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN.
The booklets provide information on the recalculation of pensions, social payments, and salaries, where citizens can exchange their money most quickly, what the limit is for a single exchange, whether it is necessary to re-sign contracts, etc.
Earlier in the day, the Ombudsman will hold an open lesson on civic education at 6th Secondary School "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" with 10th and 11th grade students, who will talk to Delcheva about the rights of children and young people, as well as what issues they can turn to the national public defender for assistance.
