Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva opened the exhibition “See Me,” which features drawings by young people from the “Aleko Konstantinov” and “Hristo Botev” residential centres for children and youth with disabilities.
The exhibition was organised as part of the “Stand Up for Them, Too!” project by “Hope and Homes for Children – Bulgaria,” with the aim of raising awareness and sharing stories about children and young people with disabilities who live in family-style residential centres in Sofia.
The exhibition features drawings through which the young people share their dreams, hopes, and visions for a world based on acceptance, friendship, and equal opportunities. It is a continuation of the “Ombudsman for a Day” initiative, held in April with the participation of children and young people from the social services and children’s programme of “Hope and Homes for Children – Bulgaria.”
During the opening, the Ombudsman emphasised the importance of public support for every child and young person.
“As you can see, the drawings are wonderful; they’re very fresh and full of hope and the smiles of these young people who need our support,” said Velislava Delcheva.
During the opening, Boryana Klimetova, programme director of “Hope and Homes for Children—Bulgaria,” thanked the Ombudsman for hosting the event.
“It is a great pleasure for us to start right here with an exhibition by young people from the two centres we work with. All the drawings, quotes, and photos were created during our meetings and sessions with the young people,” explained Klimentova.
The exhibition will remain at the Ombudsman Institution for two weeks and will also be open to the public visiting the institution's reception area. Afterward, the works will be displayed at other government agencies to reach a wider audience, with the hope of raising public awareness of the rights, equal opportunities, and full participation of all children and young people in public life.
