Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva will open tomorrow, 1 December 2023, the photo exhibition “Mirrors of Love. About love in the first person”. The event will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the institution of the public defender, in the Club hall on the fifth floor, 22 George Washington Street, and is dedicated to the International Day of People with Disabilities, 3 December.
The exhibition is part of the Ombudsman's National Campaign “For the Rights of Children and People with Disabilities”, which brings together a number of initiatives, discussions, information days and meetings with organisations of and for people with disabilities to change legislation and establish good administrative practices.
The photo exhibition “Mirrors of Love. About love in the first person” is organized jointly with the Movement of Bulgarian Mothers Foundation and the Down Syndrome-Bulgaria Association. This is a photo project by Rositsa Bukova, an active defender of the rights of people from vulnerable groups in our society, aiming to show vividly that people with Down syndrome can live with dignity when they are cared for by their supportive family and when the community accepts them as completely normal.
The exhibition is a sign of respect and attention to relatives and parents who give their children all the care and love, thanks to which people with Down syndrome reach an age that would otherwise be difficult to reach if they spent their lives at institutions.
The characters in the photo exhibition have one more chromosome, and this makes them always smiling, sunny and loving. They bring incredible energy and strength for life, radiate positive emotions and true feelings that they do not hide. They show that their life is a worthy example of respect that we as a society are obliged to give them.
