The Ombudsman Institution organised a charity Easter Bazaar in support of the social enterprise “Tvorilnitsa,” with the proceeds going toward providing employment and training for people with mental health issues.
The initiative highlights an often-overlooked issue: the right to work and a dignified life for people with mental health disorders, who continue to face significant barriers to social inclusion.
The bazaar featured handmade items—sun-themed aprons for children, pillowcases with rabbits, tablecloths and napkins embroidered with eggs and flowers, and other items created with great care, patience, dedication by the participants of “Tvorilnitsa”—a social enterprise affiliated with the “Global Initiative in Psychiatry-Sofia” Foundation, which provides people with mental health issues the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills, and work experience.
“Support for people with mental health issues cannot be merely verbal. It must take the form of concrete actions that offer a real chance at employment and independence,” the Ombudsman pointed out.
All proceeds from sales during the bazaar will be directed entirely toward employment programmes for people with mental disorders, as well as toward training and raising community awareness on the topic of mental health.
